The Discipline of Reading

Learning to read is the central theme in the first grade year. Like anything worth learning, it is a skill attained through a building block process of precision teaching and consistent practice. The family of a first grader lovingly participates in securing a child's reading know-how through the daily discipline of  go-for-broke practice! The whole process reminds me of this well-written quote:

"Reading requires intense discipline and the capacity to sit still and engage. It's a skill you can develop, this quieting of the mind. Some books make it easier than others, sure, but the fact remains: A strong reader is a champ at refusing the sweet mutter of distractions."
- Juan Vidal
